Can I choose my own doctor if I was injured at work?

For your initial medical treatment, your employer has the right to choose your doctor. After 10 days, you may choose to change doctors. If you receive disability benefits, your employer also may require you to submit to periodic examinations by a doctor of his choice. However, you can continue to receive your regular care from your personal doctor. If your employer attempts to prevent you from seeing your own doctor—or if the employer instructs you to submit to an unreasonable number of medical examinations—contact workers rights attorney Victor Valentino.

How is my wage loss benefit determined?

In most cases, if you are temporarily disabled by a work injury you will receive 80 percent of the after-tax value of your average weekly wages. The maximum allowable benefit is 90 percent of the state average weekly wage. You may be entitled to additional benefits for specific injuries or permanent disability. Discuss your specific situation with workers compensation lawyer Victor Valentino.

What if I am not aware of my injury right away?

You should report your injury as soon as it occurs if possible. If you do not realize the nature of your injury immediately, report it as soon as you become aware of it. Michigan law allows you up to three months to report your injury or illness. If you are challenged about the timetable of your injury by your employer or by the Michigan Workers Compensation Agency, seek help from Detroit injury lawyer Victor Valentino.

Why do I need an attorney to help me file bankruptcy?

Although you are not legally required to work with an attorney on your bankruptcy petition, filing bankruptcy is a serious decision that calls for informed counsel, and the required paperwork can be complex. A Michigan bankruptcy is often the best solution to your financial problems, but it can make your situation worse in the absence of a knowledgeable bankruptcy attorney. A mishandled bankruptcy can even result in criminal penalties being brought against you by the appointed U.S. Department of Justice bankruptcy trustee. At Valentino Law Firm, we protect you from mistakes that threaten your liberty, and we help you fill out all of your paperwork at no extra charge.
